1968 Pontiac Grand Prix

One of my neighbors proudly owns a 1968 Pontiac Grand Prix. Needing some classic car inspiration, I went out to photograph this wonderful automobile. -Steve

1968 was the final year the Grand Prix's body was based on its counterpart, the Pontiac Catalina. According to what I've read, the 1967 and 1968 Grand Prix models did not sell well, and it may have been from its appearance. It looks large and heavy - not quite like the sports car it's intended to be. When the newly designed 1969 Grand Prix came out (which uses the same body as the '69 Monte Carlo), the car was a hit! You probably won't see many 1968 Pontiac Grand Prix in car shows, but this beautiful car is worthy of admiration.

My friend's Grand Prix runs well with its original 428 engine. However, it does need a new coat of paint. It's original color was "golden green" - a popular auto color in the late 1960s. It's a grayish green with a hint of gold when the light hits it at certain angles.

At first glance, the 1968 Grand Prix's tail lights look similar to the 1970-1972 Pontiac GTO tail lights.
